Takayama city is just 15 minutes by car from Shitanda, and offers sightseeing landmarks
including the old town scenery, fortified samurai headquarters, morning markets and more.
Takayama City provides easy access to the Norikura Skyline or the Oku-Hida Spa Village.
The area is also popular for seasonal nature walks.

Hear the chorus of frogs welcoming the arrival of spring. Pick wild mountain vegetables in May, or enjoy a spot of fishing in the clear waters of the surrounding rivers.

See fireflies dance around the inn between late May and mid July. The Norikura Skyline on the border of southwest Nagano and Gifu Prefectures is also popular as a cool spot at this time.
During this season, many attractive Alpine plants are in full bloom, creating vast scenes of wild flowers.

From early September to mid October, thousands of colorful Cosmos and other flowers appear along National Motor Route 158, known as “The Cosmos Highway”. Enjoy Honoki Daira Ski ground’s Cosmos Garden, with 8,000,000 Cosmos flowers in full bloom.

While enjoying the winter scenery, stay warm by gathering around the open hearth while indulging in pickled appetizers and local Sake. The flavors are sensational. Only 20 minutes away is the Honoki Daira Ski resort where the quality of snow is exceptional, and discounts are available for guests of Shitanda.
